Scientific Writing Workshop

Scientific Writing Workshop: Workshop on Writing Research Articles and Proposals in Cancer Research

  • the workshop is designed to prepare individuals to publish peer-reviewed research articles in international journals and to submit research proposals to funding agencies
  • the workshop is open to all Central and Eastern European countries
  • participants should have experience in cancer research
Background
Study findings need to be published to become accessible and contribute to medical research. Therefore, the ability to write well is critical especially for healthcare professionals interested in becomming researchers as it would enable them to clearly and precisely convey their ideas and research results. An original research article is considered to be a primary source of information. The level of publication in peer review journals is still low in developing countries. This is critical since scientific publications constitute the most effective tool for researchers to present the results of an original research project, scientific experiment or study. Additionally, professors and students of scientific disciplines advance their field of knowledge through scientific research.

A two-day workshop is organized by Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute (Dr. Zdrazilova Dubska, prof. Vyzula) to discuss the most important aspects of writing a research article, specifically the different sections and the language that can be used to accomplish one’s goals in those sections of an article. A considerable amount of time will be spend on how authors can analyze texts to understand language choices and see how writing is much more than having the right general organization and achieving technical accuracy.
